First Post of Summer 2010 Tour.

Thursday May 13th Austin //Beerland Tourkick off
Sorta not as many people showed up, but still had a good time. Cruddy and Horse + Donkey were great, but the opener how I quit crack didn’t show up. She had sent us a message on myspace day of saying she couldn’t make it, but we didn’t check it. Not that it is new information, but having to use myspace to book stuff is fucking terrible. I found myself on myspace often for this tour looking for local bands in various cities.  Hard to believe that I used that site on a daily basis in the past.  Brutal.. Anyway we made about 300 bucks with all the merch sales, and the other bands being cool about hooking us up with $$ for the tour. Said our goodbyes had my last breakfast taco for a while and then headed to Dallas on Friday afternoon..

Friday May 14th Dallas//Lounge on Elm St.
Oh Dallas.  While it was good to hang out with John Iskander the show was meh.  The Beets had cancelled day of which certainly didn’t help the draw, but ya not exactly a stellar first show out of the gate. John was nice enough to let us stay in his incredible appartment in Dallas, and he showed us chat roulette.  That was interesting. Old dudes and young girls.  Fell asleep watching 2012. Woke up,showered, and headed to Metro Diner for our first Diner food breakfast (fav part of tour).

Saturday May 15th Hot Springs, AR//The Exchange
Easily one of the best venues for small unpopular touring bands such as ourselves. Bobby Missile is the main meister there.  Great guy.  Got two 30 packs of Budweiser cans for 40 bucks as we pulled into town to gas up.  Went to the venue, and the non veggies ate a bunch of chicken that was left over from a city wide Cmyself cken cook off. Marc and I went and had a couple beers and a pizzzzza.  The bill that night consisted of a high school band called Through the looking glass (a self described “metal-core” band), us, and one of Bobby’s bands called Mother Hug.  The high school band brought about 95% of the very underage crowd. Mother Hug ruled (especially the drummer), and a couple friends from Little Rock (goose and jay) drove up to see us.  We drank a ton of beer, and ended the night watching the classic film… Do America.  A perfect day. Next morning had breakfast at Granny’s Kitchen.

Sunday May 16th Kansas City,MO// Joseph Stack Memorial Hall
So before we left on this trip George downloaded about 10 hrs of Sharpling and Wurster clips from the best show on WFMU. We listen to a lot of comedy and dub in the van and on this particular drive we hit a brutal hail storm.  Beautiful country, but I’m glad I wasn’t doing the driving.  Anyway, the show was great. Demon Horse the first band of the night killlled it hard.  Also enjoyed the Conquerors set.  The crowd was gutterpunk-y art kids.  They really liked us. That felt good.  Kansas City was really good to us, and I liked walking around the old abondoned brick buildings of downtown. Reminds me how new Austin is.  Our drummer Chris is from KC, and we stayed at his buddy Josh’s huge house. Fell asleep watching Hangover.  In the morning Josh went to the store and made us a big ol’ breakfast.

Monday May 17th Chicago, IL// Empty Bottle
We plan our tours through the midwest on the basis of getting a show at the Empty Bottle on a Monday.  Easily the best Monday night in the country.  It’s free to get in, always packed, good bands, and $1.50 PBR’s (.75 for bands).
Jesse used to work there so we have a sort of long time friendship going with the club. The first person I saw when I walked in was Bob.  He’s a big teddy bear who can probably punch hard.  Great to hang with him for the night.  We have been emailing back and forth with the band KK Rampage about doing a split 7″ (still in the works) so it was great to finally meet and watch those dudes. They killed it. Also played with Psychic Steel (ex-coughs), and they were cool.  Was a great turnout 220 through the door. Bands get paid through the bar.  Was awesome.  Saw a lot of friends… Dr. G, Mike Lizer, Ryan + Jessica, and Loren (who kindy let us sleep at her cribbbb). I slept in the van .  In the morning we watched a couple episodes of Arrested D, went to record shops, ate greek food at Sultan’s, and drove to my home state of Indiana.

Tuesday May 18th Bloomington, IN// The Bishop
My mom and dad made the drive over from my hometown of Seymour (go fighting owls). They bought us dinner, and brought over some fresh strawberries from my parents neighbors garden.  Nate and I went to college in Bloomington, and have kind of avoided it after a few pretty terrible show experiences at uncle fisterz aka being too loud on punk rock night… However we heard there was a new venue called the Bishop that was cool so we decided to go for it.  We played with Nobunny and Apache Dropout.  Really great crowd, and we somehow didn’t drive out the garage rocker fans. Sold a bunch of stuff, and blew some minds.  My friend Joel drove over from Cincinnati and was great to see him.  First time my parents watched dinos and they said that the crowd seemed entertained.  Ended up at video saloon for a few beers before sleeping in an empty house that was owned by Chris’s friend Lars brother. INCREDIBLE Sat-Tues. Driving to Cleveland now..

Newz!!

Vassssup. Long time no talky…..

Sorry no updates lately.  We are in the midst of writing/recording new songs.  In early 2010 we  have 3 new releases coming your way.   A 12″ compilation out on Norwegian label Compost Modern Art Recordings (myspace.com/compostmodernart ) with some really great French noisy bands like cheveu, crash normal, the dictaphone, De La Cave, The Feeling of Love,  Don Vito from Germany, and some Americans too..  Ty Segall, Agent Ribbons, Sneakers (drummer from Cave), spits, and us.  Really stoked, and flattered to be amongst such great talent.

Also in the works are a full length out on Portland’s Stunned Records (stunnedrecords.blogspot.com), and a split 7″ with KK Rampage!!  Again psyched to be orbiting some siiiick folks!

In band member news…

-Our drummer Chris’s other band Dikes of Holland  (myspace.com/dikesofholland) are doing a  tour in November, and have a track on an upcoming Matador compilation!! Check their myspace for dates, etc.

-Expensive Shit (supergroup featuring dinos George, Nate, and Cory + Chopper Dave, Klint, and Mike (formerly of Black Eyes) has a new release out on Los Angeles powerhouse  Not Not Fun Records (notnotfun.com)  “Pow Wow with Chopper”  will be available at an instore this sunday at 6pm @ End of an Ear.

Whoa Lubbock was by far the best show of the tour. Thanks for the happy ending.  scar Numerators and Go to Hell killed!  Pretty happy to be home.  I’ll leave you with a pic of a scarface truck toy..

Lubbock or leave it…

Sorry we havent been keeping up, but we’ve had some brutal drives and limited internetz..

Missoua

Played at a sweet spot called the badlander.  The local was called Fag Rag and they killed it.  Probably our favorite up to that point.  People seemed into it, but not enough to offer us up a spot to sleep.  So we slept in the van. Not very fun and a cop came and said whaaaazup.

Butte

Sweet sweet time in Butte.  Possibly the high point.  Good friend of mine lives there and owns a coffeeshop/sandwich spot.  Also lives above it and has a guest bungalow.  We just chilled and relaxed there. Was a very welcome change to the usual hustle and grind of touring.  The show was in his shop with two high school punkish bands and it RULED.  Tangle Bang and Mordecai!!   The bands were great and we had a blast.   Spent the next morning sleeping in, eating food, and walking around the little town. Truly a great 24hrs. Thanks to Jimmy, Essie, and Leo.

Denver

Another brutal drive! Ate some good food, and met up with some old friends.  Dani and John,  Elliot, Pat and Rachael. Show was tevs, but big money got pizz-fucking-aid!  Stayed at Dani and John’s house (thanks!) and we drank some of the wine that he makes.  It was awesome. I have friends that make beer, but my first homemade wine that I can remember.  Next morning we decided to class it up a bit and went and ate crepes.  (thanks again for the hookup dani!)

Santa Fe

Played at a pretty cool art space called Meow Wolf.  They saved us from having a night off since our albuquerque show got cancelled.  We played with two folk meisters that were pretty good. Their names escape me.  Kiel and Jake ? was a tevs show as usual.  They let us sleep in the venue which was pretty fun actually and we just drank beers.

Now we’re back in Tejas.  Sitting in Lubbock. Gonna play our last show of the tour tonight..

San Jose

Lazy morning in SF followed by easy drive to San Jose.  Ate at an really really awesome Veggie restaurant (name escapes me).  Free video games at the venue (nickel city arcade).  Show was fun, and then we drove and drove to Portland.

Arrived in Portland and remembered how many hippies live there. Weather was perfect, but jeez dudes come on!  Chris’s parents live there so he met up with them.  Marc, George, and myself were exhausted and had no place to go so we went to a park.  We totes looked homeless. sleeping bags, 40 0z’s, stinky, and very tired. We tried to sleep but instead just talked about uncle foamy.   Marc got stung by a bee on his foot while we were running our football drills. (shoes off so we could fit in with the locals). Managed to get a shower in over at our friend Jacolyn’s house even tho she was out of town for a wedding. Had a couple beers with our friends from Austin (emily and ian).

Show was fun.  Some old friends came out (johny from expensive shit, marlo gil!, erik blad, and chris’s parents!)  We played with a band called Family Curse (enjoyed watching them play).  We rocked it and stayed over at Erik’s house.  Woke up, had breakfast, saw Demetri Martin, and drove to Seattle.

Seattle was our best show thus far. Good crowd, good bill, and we played well.  Stayed with our friend Aaron at a recording studio he works.  Something about the dude that owns it wrote all the code for amazon.com or something.

Yesterday we drove to Spokane, was pretty        (boring).  Lady that owned the venue Empyrean was very nice. Fed us a bunch of free pitchers of beer!  Was open mic night (brutal), and the local bands were uh interesting.  Chris did a bruce springsteen song, and then marc, george, and chris did a silver jews song (silver booze). The sound guy really liked us and put us up at his place. Thanks Henry!

We played to a few people in chairs looking at us.   The show ended with this rap rock band called “crunk rap supreme”.  oh man! i have some video i’ll try to upload at some point. they were all pissed about not getting pizzzzzzaid cuz we had a guarantee.  They were slightly stoopid imho.

Just drove to Missoula. Again nice drive.  that’s all i’ve got.

San Francisco

Played at Hemlock Tavern. Other than the amount of people actually watching the show it was a great night.  The other bands were killer, and strangly enough one of the dudes that played has played in my garage in his other band called Citay.  Some friends came out Trent Knott who I went to High School with, and also our friend Brooke came in from Oakland! Great to see familar faces.   Like I said small turnout, but the staff was insanely nice to us!  Free drinks and food and stuff!  Thanks!!!

So after we play our friend Mike Sanchez (former bartender at emo’s) showed up and we got pretty wasted.  He let us stay at his place, and get this shit. . Dude lives in Jimi Hendrix’s old house!  Literally two houses down from hippie meister land Height / Ashbury!! Crazy shit!  A roommate just moved out so we had this rad whole room for ourselves! Was super amazing!!

So today we were severly hungover.  Had breakfast with Mike and then just walked around and looked at tourists and stuff.  Also Mike has a legal Marijuana card thing, and he bought us some weed candy!  Havent tried it yet tho. George bought some “rad” shoes..

Currently in a coffee shop in San Jose. Playing at an arcade, and then after the show we to drive all night to Portland. Not Noiice!!!

Los Angeles

Spent the morning doing laundry. Drove in to LA went to Amoeba Records and spent way too much money on records. George bought a shitfuckton of $0.50 rap singles. Marc got some Country Teasers, Jim O’Rourke and some more of them rap records.  Chris got some Suicide 10″s. I got a Lindstrom/Prins Tomas double  record, and a bunch of dub.  Then we went to George’s friend Eric’s house in Hollywood and sampled some of California’s excellent agricultural produce. I went to Highland Park and visited my friend Tracie, and her son Elijah.  We went to the smell and loaded in, and a few friends showed up… David from Red X Red M, Harsh (who designed the snacks cover), Tan, and the weed dude Eric.

The venue we played (the smell) is an alcohol free diy art space so We went to this gay tejano bar down the way. It pretty much ruled.   Played with a bunch of dancey electronic bands that made me feel old.  Met a band from Denton called Florene, nice dudes. Actually everyone was super nice all night.

Went back to Eric’s place and drank some beers and stuff and on a giant fucking sweet TV we watched the end of John Carpenters The Thing, and then Wild Pacific.  Woke up and ate a delicious breakfast at a place called Dupar’s. Yum! Then we saw Thomas Hayden Church and we wanted to scream

“I’m not drinking any Fucking Merlot!” but we didn’t.

Currently we are driving to San Francisco, and the surrounding mountains.. look like west Texas.

PS. It should be noted that this tour is called “The Registered Handgun Tour”. I forget to tell you dudes

Had an awesome show on a monday night in San Diego!  Casbah was rad to us. We finally met Batwings (the other artist on our 7″ on us two records). They killed it!  Also we each got 6 free 24 oz pbr’s!  Was super fun!
